Kocheril Raman Narayan was the 10th President of India. In 1992, he was appointed as the country’s 9th Vice President, then in 1997, Narayan became the President of the country. He was the first and only politician to become the president of the Dalit community.

Narayan was famous as an independent and vocal president, who had set many examples of his work.

They used to call themselves “Executive President” who “used to work in the four corners of the Constitution,” they have “executive president” who have full power and “rubber stamp president” who support the government’s decisions without question and opposition Used to, chose the path between the two.

The Early life of K R Narayan

K. R. Narayan was born as a fourth child from seven children of Kocheril Raman Vidyarthi in a small pallet hut in Parumthanam of Ujhavur; he was a practitioner of Traditional Indian medicine system of Siddha and Ayurveda.

His family was impoverished, but due to his father’s sharp intellect in the field of medicine, he was highly respected.

He was born on February 4, 1921, but his uncle was not aware of his actual date of birth and, therefore, arbitrarily, he was born on October 27, 1920, Narayan decided to keep the time of delivery as official.

K R Narayan’s father had studied the medical system of Ayodhya and Ayurveda genuinely, he had a good understanding of it, due to which everyone respected them all.

The early education of KR Narayan was held in 1927 in Ujjwor under Primary School. There were no proper means of going at that time, due to which he had to go 15 km daily for education.

K R Narayan ji did not have any money to buy books; he used to copy books with his friends. From 1931 to 1935, KR Narayan received education from Our Lady of Lourdes School.

In 1937 KR Narayan ji passed matriculation examination from St. Merry High School. With the help of a scholarship, KR Narayan ji has given an Intermediate survey of Kottayam’s CSM. Completed the school in 1940.

In 1943, he did his B.A. and M.A. in English literature from Travancore University. He is the first Dalit who completed his degree in the First Class.

In 1944-45 Narayanan ji acted as a journalist in the Hindu and the times of India. During this, on 10 April 1945, he took a Gandhiji interview.

K.R. Narayanan ji always wanted to go abroad and study, but his economic status did not allow him. The scholarship was not even used at that time, so Narayanan ji wrote a letter to JRD Tata and asked for help.

Tata helped him, and he went to the London school of economics for the education of political science. In 1948, he returned to India and his professor Laski introduced him to Nehruji.

Nehruji gave him an IFS job then K.R. Narayanan Ji went to Burma in 1949. In the year 1954, he gave education to children in the Delhi school of economics.

After his tenure as IFS in 1978, he was Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University from 1979 to 80. Then in 1980, the then Prime Minister Indiraji made the Indian ambassador America from 1980 to 84.

Narayan had entered politics only on the request of Indira Gandhi and won three consecutive general elections from the congressional seat representing the Ottappalam constituency of Palakkad in Kerala, 1984, 1989 and 1991.

He was also the Minister of State in Rajiv Gandhi’s Union Cabinet, who had worked in the Department like Planning (1985), External Affairs (1985-86) and Science and Technology (1986-89).

As a member of parliament, he had opposed international pressure on patent control in India. But in 1991 when the Congress came to power, Narayan was not included in the cabinet.

Kerala Chief Minister of Kerala Karunakaran, describing his reasons for not making him a minister, was his political advisor, saying he was a “communist fellow traveler.”

Subsequently, on 21st August 1992, during the Presidential Period of Shankar Dayal Sharma, he was appointed as Vice President of India. His name is recommended by former Prime Minister and Janata Dal Leader VP Singh did.

Later, he was elected without opposition from PV Narasimha Rao. They were always ready to raise the voice of tribals, minorities and the weak people of the society. After retiring from the post of President on July 25, 2002, he started living along with his wife Usha Narayanan on Prithviraj Road in Delhi.

After being appointed the President, Narayanan had made policy or principle that he will not go to any place of worship or the location of worship – whether it is of Deity or Goddess. It was the only President who did not visit any place of worship during his tenure.

Death of KR Narayan

In the last days of life, he had suffered from pneumonia. He was admitted to Army Research and Referral Hospital, New Delhi where he breathed his last on November 9, 2005, for treatment. On 24 January 2008, his wife Usha Narayanan also passed away.
